The Care Pod Pathways CIO
Transforming Carer, Dementia & Community Wellbeing Through Therapy, Prevention & Recovery
Our Mission
To strengthen West Sussex’s carer support landscape by ensuring unpaid carers have access to the same level of emotional support and preventative wellbeing interventions as the people they care for — from the beginning of caring through to rebuilding life after caring ends.
Why We Exist
Unpaid carers keep families, communities and the health & social care system functioning, yet they are often the first to experience:
-
Burnout and exhaustion
-
Isolation and fear
-
Mental health decline
-
Physical health risks
-
Avoidable crisis and hospitalisation
No organisation currently follows a carer’s wellbeing from early strain, through crisis, to post-caring recovery. We do.
Alongside this, SEND families and young people often face limited access to structured support, emotional regulation programmes and transitional pathways into adulthood. Our outreach and PFA pathways fill these gaps.

Care Pod Pathways CIO Services
-
Mental Health & RN Wellbeing Checks – Early identification of stress, burnout, sleep issues, falls risk, hydration/nutrition concerns — intervening before crisis escalates.
-
Evidence-Based Therapy – Clinically supervised counselling and coping programmes using validated clinical tools.
-
Subsidised Therapeutic Respite – Funding day sessions at The Care Pod, giving carers essential, guilt-free breathing space.
-
Practical Home Help – Cleaning and independence support that keeps people safe at home and delays escalation to formal care.
-
Living Grief & Post-Caring Recovery – Therapeutic support for carers dealing with identity loss, adjustment, anticipatory grief or bereavement.
-
Future Pathways – Volunteering, skills-building and employment readiness support for former carers.
SEND Community Outreach
Our High-Needs Therapy Programme supports adults aged 16+ with complex needs, offering a calm, sensory-led day of music, movement, TACPAC and creative therapy. Guided by professional therapists and supported by RN oversight, the programme is fully accessible for wheelchair users, non-verbal individuals and those requiring hoist support. All attendees come with their own PA or support worker to ensure safe, personalised care.
